FRAY ZEFERINO GONZÁLEZ
(1831 - 1894) Born in Villoria, son of modest farmhands, was one of the outstanding
personalities of his time and is today considered one of the most influential Thomism Philosophers in his time,
together with Jaime Balmes. He entered the monastery of Ocaña and he was ordained priest in Manila, in whose
University of Saint Thomas was a professor of theology and Philosophy. For health reasons, he returned to Spain
in 1866, where he continued with his intelectual work and where he carried out diverse duties within the Dominican
order. He was Bishop of Córdoba in 1875 and Archbishop of Seville in 1883. In 1884 he was named cardinal and
in 1885, Primate and Patriarch of Toledo. He has left abundant theology and philosophy literary works.
